A classic homemade doughnut recipe, featuring a soft, fluffy dough that's deep-fried to golden perfection and coated in a simple, sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for a comforting treat.
1. Activate: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit 5–10 mins until foamy.
2. Make the dough: Add melted butter, egg, flour, and salt. Knead until smooth and stretchy (5–8 mins).
3. Rise: Cover and let it double in size (about 1 hour).
4. Shape: Roll the dough to 1–1.5cm thick. Cut circles with a small hole in the centre.
5. Second rise: Let them puff for 20–30 mins while you heat your oil.
6. Fry: Heat oil to 170–180°C. Fry each doughnut until golden on both sides. Drain on a rack.
7. Glaze: Whisk icing sugar, warm milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip each warm doughnut straight in and let the excess drip off.
8. Set: Let the glaze turn shiny + crackly… then devour immediately.
